The Third Watch
Completed in 1872, the current Bodie Island Lighthouse is the third beacon built to protect the ever-changing coastline. The first lighthouse was abandoned as erosion claimed the shoreline, while the second was destroyed by retreating Confederate troops during the Civil War.
